Pay It Forward

At the end of a not-so-good day, I got a package in the mail from my sister-in-law, Kristy, containing a cute set of homemade blocks that spell out at least 16 seasonal sayings. I immediately set it to "SNOW" because geez--if it's going to be cold, it may as well snow. Anyway, it was a gift for a pay-it-forward game. So now I get to make some things and send them to people. Here are the rules:

The first three (3) people interested in this little game will leave a message on this post. I will then send a handmade gift to those 3 people within the next year (most likely in the next few months). In order to play the game though, you must be willing to keep the spirit alive, and post a "Pay it Forward", and send out 3 handmade gifts to your readers! (You can take a year to send yours, if you need to!). It doesn't have to be anything big or a major project--just homemade. Even cookies and baked goods count.

So, anyone interested? Leave me a message.

Serious Silliness

She insisted on eating dinner in this get-up

I can't seem to get Spencer's backpack off her these days. She waddles around all day with it on her back.

And she drags this kitchen chair around, climbing on the counters, getting into everything. With her backpack on. And hat. And sometimes gloves, too.

Fall Pictures

Jeremy, this post is for you. Enjoy.

What Spencer finds important, take two

Don't ask me what the guy in the front is doing.
I actually really like this one. I just wish the lighting were better:

Before and Almost-After

I've been holding back posting pictures of our new kitchen because it's still not completely done. But it's close enough. I'll post more when we're done.

Here's the lovely before picture, complete with mismatch appliances, small corner sink with dishwasher that blocks you in with the door open (not very conducive to washing dishes), stained laminate countertops, dated cabinets that were (literally) falling off the walls, and parquet floor that was installed incorrectly (there were so many gaps, that if I swept the floor, there was no pile of stuff at the end--it simply fell in the gaps). And don't even get me started on the puke red backsplash area, with painted outlets and covers, and nail pops.

And here's our new kitchen:

Still to be completed:
-install hardware on cabinets
-tile backsplash
-install crown mouldings
-finish wainstcoting on dining area (pictures coming soon)
-repair holes in ceiling where previous light fixtures were
-buy stainless steel microwave
-spray paint knife block and paper towel holder so they stop reminding me of my old kitchen

Question of the day: what to tile the backsplash with?
options: travertine subway tile (to match floor)
mosaic tile in ? color
pebble tile
We are stumped on this one.
Any ideas?!?
